ABOUT
Alexander Rosenkranz is a visual artist and photographer, born in Berlin and based in Oslo. His work examines how a society constitutes itself through public space, and how photographic images take part in that. Artist's books are central to his practice: he makes them in small editions, where the book is the work itself rather than a document of it. His publications include City Cut Off (Park Books, Zurich) and Gibellina Model Studies (Editions Images Vevey).
His work has been exhibited internationally at institutions including the Images Vevey Biennial (CH), Photographische Sammlung SK Stiftung Kultur (DE), and Haus am Kleistpark (DE). He has received awards and grants including the Atelier-Stipendium from Deutsche Bank and the Images Vevey Research & Development Grant. His works are held in public collections including the Museum of Contemporary Photography Chicago (USA), Haus am Kleistpark (DE), and the Museum of Contemporary Art Magdeburg (DE).
Alongside his artistic practice, Rosenkranz has taught and lectured at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (DE), the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt (DE), the University of the Arts Bremen (DE), and the University of Cologne (DE). He holds a Master of Fine Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig, where he also completed a postgraduate master class under Prof. Joachim Brohm. He is a member of the photography collective Bjørka in Oslo, where he runs the Bjørka Publications platform.
