Alexander Rosenkranz is a visual artist and photographer whose work explores architectural and urbanist themes, focusing on how cities reflect societal structures. He holds a Master of Fine Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig, where he also completed a postgraduate master class (Meisterschüler) under Prof. Joachim Brohm. His practice often begins with a photo-documentary approach, which he expands or deconstructs through artistic intervention, questioning perception and spatial narratives within the built environment.
His work has been exhibited internationally in institutions such as Haus am Kleistpark (Berlin), Images Vevey Biennial (Switzerland), Foam Photography Museum (Amsterdam), and Photographische Sammlung SK Stiftung Kultur (Cologne), among others. His artist books include Gibellina Model Studies (2022, Editions Images Vevey & Stefano Stoll) and City Cut Off (2021, Institut für Buchkunst Leipzig & Park Books).
He has received several prestigious awards and grants, including the Atelier-Stipendium from Deutsche Bank (2023), the Grand Prix Images Vevey Nestlé Grant (2022), and an Honorable Mention for the Snider Prize at the Museum of Contemporary Photography Chicago (2021). His works are part of public collections such as Haus am Kleistpark (Berlin), the Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College Chicago, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Magdeburg.
Alongside his artistic practice, he has been engaged in teaching, lecturing at institutions such as the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt, the University of Cologne, and the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig. He has also led workshops and artist talks in Bucharest, Kathmandu, and at The University of New Mexico.
